Fighting the “Fairness Doctrine” Update 2

Some people who support censorship - the “Fairness Doctrine” - argue that it’s needed to combat media ownership consolidation.

Don’t let the argument about media consolidation fool you.

Yes, media ownership has consolidated at the national level over the past few decades. However, like in any business, if any company or companies dominates a market to the detriment of the consumer, the government has the use of Anti-Trust laws to foster competition.

The solution to possibly legitimate concerns over media ownership consolidation is to use the proper tool — antitrust actions.

Regulating the content of those stations does not address the issue. It’s a cover story. It’s an unconstitutional infringement of free speech, press, and religion.  It’s a ruse to get to their ultimate goal — the elimination of opposition from talk radio. And they’ll take down Christian radio along with it.

Besides, I’m not worried about the big personalities — Rush, Hannity, Beck, Savage and the like have millions of listeners and would likely follow Howard Stern’s path and go to satellite radio, to cable TV, to the internet.

It’s the thousands of local and regional talk and Christian personalities and radio stations that will suffer.

Censorship never works – sunlight is the best disinfectant.
